It’s not uncommon for celebrities to borrow jewelry from high-end designers for special events, but Jennifer Lopez’s recent refusal to return her $50,000 worth of diamonds lent to her by Robert Mouawad is a bit unheard of.
The “Waiting for Tonight” songstress was loaned some serious bling to wear to the launch of Andrea Lieberman’s fashion line, ALC, at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills last week. And she ended up keeping the jewels.
An insider told press, “We received a call from [her manager] Benny Medina, informing us that Jennifer was going to keep the jewelry. As far as Mr. Mouawad is concerned, Jennifer can have whatever she wants, but a premature demand seemed presumptuous.”
The source continued, “Mr. Mouawad is the Swiss billionaire who purchased the 60-carat flawless Mondera Diamond for $50 million. He will lose no sleep over $50,000, and frankly, Jennifer’s endorsement is priceless.”
However, Medina has a different take on the ordeal, saying that the jewels and her clothing were payment for her attending the event. “There was no demand whatsoever. There was an offer. It was very clear. She was the only celebrity whose name was on the invite. She would have done it for nothing. But this was how it was presented. It was quite a generous offer.”
